Who Can Sign Up for Tara Energy’s Solar Power Rewards Plan?
This plan is carefully crafted for Texas families and homeowners who want a stable, supportive partner to help manage their home solar investments. If you want to ensure your home generation is working directly to lower your monthly living expenses, this plan provides the security you need.
Because this program is designed to reward active community generation, having an operational home solar panel system installed on your property is a requirement for enrollment.
To ensure we can successfully apply the 6¢/kWh generation credits to your monthly utility bill, your household setup must meet these essential criteria:
An Installed Solar Array
Your property must feature physical, grid-connected solar generation equipment with a maximum capacity of 25 kilowatts (kW) or less.
A Completed Connection Agreement
Your home needs a fully executed Interconnection Agreement with your local utility provider (TDSP) and an official load profile carrying a “PV” designation, confirming your home is registered to supply clean energy.
The Proper Two-Way Meter
Your local utility must have a bi-directional smart meter set up at your property to accurately and separately measure both the power your family draws in and the surplus you send back out.

Texas Solar Buyback FAQs
Will my solar Buyback Energy Credits ever expire?
No. Your accumulated solar Buyback Energy Credits do not have a set expiration date and will remain on your account until they are used. Unused credits are banked and automatically applied to future Energy Charges, up to a maximum accumulated credit balance of $500 while you are enrolled on this plan. If your contract term ends or your family switches to a different Tara Energy plan, you will stop accumulating new credits, but any unused credits you have already banked will continue to automatically roll over and apply to your future monthly energy charges until they are completely exhausted. Please note that these credits hold no cash value and will be forfeited if you entirely terminate your electricity service with us.
Are there any base charges for Tara’s Solar Power Rewards Plan?
Yes, to maintain absolute clarity and transparency for your household budgeting, this plan includes a Base Charge of $19.95 per billing cycle for each ESI ID. In addition to this flat monthly fee, standard pass-through charges from your local utility company (such as CenterPoint Energy’s customer and distribution charges) will apply to your statement.
Are solar panels common in Texas?

Can I sign up for any other Tara Energy plans with my solar panels?
While you are free to review our entire product selection, our alternative options, such as our popular Free Nights plan, are not designed to support homes with renewable generation infrastructure. In fact, the Free Nights plan explicitly disqualifies properties with active solar arrays, and they do not feature a mechanism to purchase your excess energy. Sticking with the dedicated Texas Solar Buyback plan ensures that your specialized bi-directional utility meter is fully utilized to reward your generation and protect your family's bottom line.
Does enrolling in the Solar Power Rewards Plan guarantee a solar credit?
No, enrolling in the Solar Power Rewards Plan does not automatically guarantee that a solar credit will appear on your monthly statement. Bill credits are only generated and applied to your family's account when your solar system exports surplus electricity back to the local grid, and that specific generation data is successfully reported to us by your utility company.
