Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Tara Energy provides service in my area?

To find out if Tara Energy offers service in your area enter your zip code above. Many Texas residents can choose their Retail Electric Provider (REP), but not every area qualifies. Enter your zip code here or on the plans and pricing pages to see if Tara Energy services are available in your neighborhood.

What is the difference between a Variable and Fixed Rate?

The price per kilowatt hour (kWh) tends to be a bit higher for Fixed Rate products than with Variable Rate products because Fixed Rate products guarantee your rate won’t go up during your contract term. Variable Rates are based upon the prevailing wholesale market rates and can fluctuate.

How do I notify my current energy provider that I am switching?

You don’t have to notify your current energy provider if you want to switch. Your new provider will take care of everything. Keep in mind that a termination fee may apply depending on the contract you are currently on if the contract term has not ended.

I’ve enrolled, what happens now?

Once you’ve enrolled, Tara Energy will validate your enrollment information and assess any necessary deposits. Once deposits are fulfilled, you will receive an email informing you of the expected meter-gain date and a confirmation letter with enrollment details and terms.

Who do I call in case of an Emergency or Power Outage?

The Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) in your region will respond to emergency and severe weather-based outages. Emergency contact phone numbers:

  • CenterPoint: 1-800-313-4747
  • AEP Texas: 1-866-223-8508
  • TNMP: 1-888-866-7456
  • Oncor: 1-888-313-4747

My friend recommended Tara energy. I called and got connected without a long wait in queue like most utility companies. The representative was really helpful and transferred me over to their sales team. I was able to get the rates I was looking for. Call today and switch!!!

I am a new business owner and relatively new to Texas. I am happy that my friends recommended Tara energy to me as they have been with the electricity service for over 5 years and all they said to me was how Tara values its customers. I got the best rates for my business needs and so far I am very happy I signed up with them.
